SLEEP 2024 On-Demand: Postgraduate Course C-07

C-07: A Journey into the Center of the Sleeping Brain (On-Demand Access Until 4/30/2025)

In this course, world leaders in sleep medicine discuss the mechanism of abnormal sleep and will deepen attendees’ understanding of how sleep disorders impact brain health. Attendees will assimilate and apply novel diagnostics and therapeutics approaches in managing insomnia, narcolepsy, circadian disorders, parasomnias, movement disorders, and restless sleep.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Gain familiarity with the pathophysiologic mechanism, presentation, and clinical course of sleep disorders originating in the nervous system, including sleep-related movement disorders, central hypersomnolence, parasomnias, insomnia, and circadian rhythm disorders;
  • Recognize the interrelationship and bidirectionality between neurological disorders such as neurodegenerative disorders, multiple sclerosis, stroke, epilepsy, and sleep;
  • Appreciate the value of successful management of insomnia, hypersomnia, and sleep-wake circadian disturbances in promoting brain health and recovery; and
  • Formulate therapeutic approaches to refractory and abnormal motor activity during sleep, including restless legs syndrome, restless sleep, periodic limb movement disorder, and parasomnias such as REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD).
